CAMPGROUND OPENS 6AM ON 31 March
Camping is in the paddocks between the Kings Highway and Kowen Forest, either side of Millpost Road (the main access road into the venue). The camping areas are indicated on the image below (click to enlarge).
FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES!
1. FRIDAY AND NOT BEFORE
YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO SET UP BEFORE FRIDAY 6AM. This is a requirement of the event organiser and the landholder. Tents, bunting and people will be removed if erected earlier than Friday 6am. Note: Do not think you can creep in during the night either, we are staying on-site (and so are the campground ninjas).
2. CAMPSITES MUST HAVE TENTS ERECTED (NOT JUST TAPE)
On Friday bump in, you cannot just tape out your campsite and leave — YOU MUST ALSO ERECT YOUR TENTS. Large areas taped with nothing in them upsets those who have to travel a long way to get to the event, so we are putting a stop to it. Large taped out areas with no tents on them may be reduced (OR REMOVED) to make space for campers who have arrived and ready to build their campsite.
3. DON’T BE GREEDY
Camping at the Mont 24 is not a land grab. You are sharing the campground paddock with many thousands of other people, so please only take what you actually need for your team. A team of six does not require much space at all.
NOTE: Campground marshals do regular sweeps of the campground to keep roads clear of vehicles and ensure that everyone gets a camping spot. They will reduce or remove bunting to allow access for other campers, so do not be surprised if this happens to your unattended taped site.
3. RESERVED AREAS – KEEP OUT
Do not set up camp in or near the area designated RESERVED on the map. If you do, you will get to set up your camp all over again somewhere else
4. Cars and caravans
They are permitted in the campground but because space is limited, it is essential that you remove all non-essential vehicles to the free parking zone near the entrance once you have unloaded your gear. Less cars means more camping space. More camping space means happy neighbours.
5. Parking etiquette
If your vehicle is required at your campsite, DO NOT park on — or just off to the side of — the road network, as this may prevent other vehicles from getting around the venue.
Park well off the road (at least 3-4 metres) so you do not hold up traffic. If your car is non-essential for your camping, move it to the designated car park areas once you have dropped your gear. If you have plans to leave during the race, you are better served to move your car the general parking area at the entrance/exit.
6. Rented caravans and marquees
Privately hired caravans (i.e. vans you may have booked for the event weekend) can only be delivered on the Friday once the campground is open. Large rental marquees (i.e. structures rented from event hire companies) are not permitted unless they are part of the official event HQ area.
7. ONE WAY TRAFFIC
Note: All roads/tracks are ONE-WAY in the campground. Please look for and obey the road signs and the directions of the Campground Marshals. They are there to help you enjoy the event.
8. SPEED LIMIT 10KM
Do not speed in the campground or on the roads. There will be a constant stream of vehicles entering the venue and thousands of pedestrians, bike riders and children. Look out for everyone, by driving SLOW. If you are caught speeding in the venue, you will be removed from the venue and your team may be unable to compete. Drive slowly and do not spin your wheels. If conditions are wet, be careful where you drive as we’d prefer not to have to rescue bogged cars.
9. NO COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY
With the exception of event organisers, sponsors and authorised traders within the Race HQ/expo area (such as bike shop, food service providers etc) be advised that DISPLAY, PROMOTION or SALE of products or services is not permitted within the campgrounds, forest or in the vicinity of the event centre. Persons found to be undertaking these activities will be escorted from the venue.
Note: Display of banners or flags of team sponsors or employers is permitted.
NAVIGATING THE CAMPGROUND
Millpost Road runs from the highway to the forest and Race HQ. There are a number of entry points into the campground on your left and right. Take one of these turns and look for a suitable spot to set up your campsite. Park well off the road (at least 3-4 metres) so you do not hold up traffic. Your car will be in this spot for the duration. If you have plans to leave during the race, move your car the general parking area at the entrance/exit. You can still drop off your gear to the campsite of course.
WHERE CAN I CAMP?
You can camp in the designated camping areas as shown on the map below (click to enlarge). You are not allowed to camp in the forest or in the sponsor or premium camping areas (marked pink). Do not camp in the low lying areas (like creek beds and dams) as they can get moist pretty quick. NOTE: Should we experience wet conditions at the Mont this year, it is likely that some areas will be designated as TENTS ONLY to avoid cars getting bogged.
TOILETS & SHOWERS*
TOILETS Semi trailer toilet blocks will be located adjacent to Millpost Road, not far from the Transition/Rego area. SHOWERS The semi trailer shower block are typically located next to the toilets. NOTE: SHOWERS WILL BE OPEN FOR 2 HOURS ON FRIDAY EVENING AND AFTER RACE START ON SATURDAY (we plan to run them right through the night). *Please note: Showers are dependent on entry numbers. If insufficient entries are received in the event, showers may not be available.
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT MILLPOST ROAD
OUTSIDE OF THE EVENT, THERE IS NO ACCESS FOR RIDERS VIA MILLPOST ROAD. Parking is not permitted on the verge outside the gate, nor parking in the paddock on Millpost Road, nor within the Kowen Forest. Parking in these areas puts future events at risk. Respect the landholders rights and only park at Sparrow Hill at either the Sparrow Hill Road carpark or the Hibernian Road carpark).
